Sunday 11th July - walk **** - Hemley circuit – sunny periods.

Actually, got better weather than forecast, getting a warm day with sunny periods with light winds so no windsurfing today but next week we might get some marginal breezes enough for a longboard cruise or perhaps a foil if I have my gear sorted by then? So today spent the morning at home in the garden, me doing my exercises just for a change while Mag potters in her lovely garden. Then I pack a picnic and take Mag around some local garden centres looking for cucumber plants after an old neighbour gave us some delicious cucumbers, so Mag would like to grow some of her own! Set off at 12.30 with the first stop being Goslings in Trimley, always a big disappointment, never have anything you want and so expensive too:( Next one just before Kirton, another disappointment, a couple of roadside stalls selling plants with no luck, last chance was Katies Plants just outside Newbourne and bingo! Mag get lucky with two cucumber plants, cheap because of need of some love and attention and a mega tray of big mixed flowers containing 15 pots for only £5, what a bargain:) We then continue on to one of our favourites Hemley church for lunch and are the only car in the little car park, result! Relaxing lunch watching the house martins over a field of potatoes before doing our circular walk down the country lane with loads of butterflies in the hedgerow. Reaching Kirton Creek with the tide right in with the pretty sea lavender now in bloom with a few birds mainly geese, lapwings and gulls as we walk back on the edge of the marshes with the River Deben nearby with several boats enjoying the light breeze! We walk to the rivers edge for better views of the popular Rocks and spook a family of Shell ducks! Then back to the van for a cuppa before heading for home but not before Mag gets a couple of lupin plants from a cottage surrounded by fields of potatoes and wild flowers:)
